School Library
We are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful library for all of our students and staff to use. Our library is themed by many traditional tales and contemporary children’s fiction, and the children love visiting to have a quiet read or to take books out to enjoy at home.
When classes are not visiting the library, it is also used as a learning hub and the children benefit from a calm and engaging environment to learn in.
We have a dedicated team of Reading Ambassadors who keep our library running smoothly, and they are always delighted to recommend a book that they’ve read or one that they would like to read next!
Accelerated Reader
Our library is catalogued using the Accelerated Reader system, and there are 1000s of titles for children to choose from.
The system organises each book into one of two sections in our school library: lower years (for pupils in lower school who have completed the Little Wandle phonics programme) or upper years (for pupils in upper school), and then codes the text based on reading difficulty.
To support children in further igniting their love of reading and developing their reading skills, Accelerated Reader also provides half termly STAR reading assessments for pupils to complete, and these guide them to choose appropriately challenging texts from the library.
Each morning, pupils who choose their books from our Accelerated Reader selection spend time reading these books and completing quizzes. The children love to take quizzes on the books that they have read, and the more quizzes they pass, the more rewards they earn…
There is always a lot of competition to be our first millionaire reader of the academic year!
